Turf Varieties To Suit Your Needs

Count on our professionals to recommend the right grass variety for your project in Hervey Bay. If you’re looking for a soft leaf that’s great for kids to play on, consider our lush Palmetto turf. This grass grows well in both sunny and shaded areas, happily surviving on just two to three hours of direct sunlight per day. It’ll retain its colour over winter and bounce back fast if it gets damaged. As an added bonus, Palmetto grows well on fairly sparse water, making it suitable for local conditions.

For an even hardier option, choose our Wintergreen variety. With a medium fine leaf and rich emerald colour, we’ve installed this versatile grass everywhere from council curbs to residential yards. As you may have guessed from the name, you can count on Wintergreen to hold its colour throughout the cooler months. This variety is a solid choice for any sunny area, requiring around 80% sunlight to thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long can turf stay on a pallet before it begins to yellow?

On a hot day in Gympie, freshly cut green turf will begin to yellow very quickly and should be laid as soon as possible. It will turn a pale yellow after just one day, losing its green colour more the longer it stays on the pallet. During summer, turf shouldn’t be left on the pallet for more than two days. When it gets cooler, it will usually last a bit longer. If the turf is cut dormant during winter it will last on a pallet for a few weeks.

  • What happens when the turf starts to yellow on the pallet?

If you haven’t laid your turf straight away and it begins to yellow on the pallet, you should get it installed quickly and watered straight away. After the colour reaches a deep yellow shade, your turf will need to produce new blades to get green again. It will still survive in most cases, just watch carefully for root growth. The plants will produce root growth even if the top is not green. Very tiny, fuzzy white shoots indicate the turf is growing. In summer months, you’ll see root growth within three to five days when you’re watering the turf properly.
